Representing your Mood/Feeling – Some thoughts

March 26th, 2007 by tkkang in Reflection · 1 Comment

How do we represent our mood and how do we keep track of the changes ? Writing blog is one way the DEgeneration keep track of snapshots of their lives. The use of “smiley” are often used to provide some visual representation of their mood in a light-hearted way. I would like to make use of this tool for the project.
As a project perhap it is possible to design an application that can be embeded in one mobile or organiser. To make things simple it should remind the user 3 time a day – morning, afternoon and evening. A number of different “smiley” will pop-up and prompt the user to reflect on his mood. He/she pick one of the visual representation that best represent feeling/mood state.

If the information is stored for a week it will be useful for me as a Psychologist to knowmy client better. It has many other applications. The problem is I do know how to program or have time to master the software development tools.

Why am I happy? How are you feeling now ?

Human Psychology and Visual Perception

February 28th, 2007 by tkkang in Reflection · 2 Comments

I listened to what a classmate have to say about MyRepresentation and I was surprised as to how much “mind-reading” was expected from looking at my 1 slide presentation. By adding a starting point focus point I can improve the accuracy of what was interpreted by the symbols and picture. This bring the question as to why research in human processing and cognitive processing is so important in today’s world (esp in advertising) where everybody wants your split-second attention for message delivery. There is a science of camoflage (I had a Professor who was a researcher into the psychology of “hidding” in my undergraduate years) and advertising – we can can learn to improve our deception practices or attention seeking in the visual world.

I have interest in cross-cultural communication where we need to understand the readers’ background for interpretation.

“I will get the job done” (position 1)

“I will get the job done” (position 2)

Changing position of “I will get the job done” (1 or 2) may give different meanings to readers. Good to have feedback on Myrepresention for improvement. Tell me what you see first ….. power of feedback before changes can be incorporated.

Testing out the upload to ILN to my webspace to see if I could make the link needed in preparation for my 1 slide visual representation of myself. Send me a Valentine card for an old dog like me who is OUT. It will make me my day!!
